Features of Cell Scraper

  • Handle: The cell scraper consists of a long handle that allows for easy manipulation and control during cell detachment and collection.
  • Blade or Scraper Head: At the end of the handle, there is a flat, rectangular, or triangular blade commonly referred to as the scraper head. It is designed to efficiently scrape and dislodge cells from the culture vessel surface without causing significant damage or disruption to the cells.
  • Material: Cell scrapers are usually made of materials that are non-cytotoxic and compatible with cell culture, such as polystyrene or polypropylene. These materials are often disposable to prevent cross-contamination between experiments.
  • Blade Size and Flexibility: Cell scrapers come in various blade sizes to accommodate different culture vessel sizes and geometries. The flexibility of the blade is also an important consideration, as it allows for gentle and effective cell detachment while minimizing stress on the cells.
  • Angled Design: Hawach cell scrapers have an angled design, with the blade positioned at an angle to the handle. This design enables better access to the entire surface area of the culture vessel, including hard-to-reach corners.
  • Sterility: Supplied in sterile packaging to maintain aseptic conditions during cell culture experiments.
  • Ergonomic Grip: Finger groove handles provide a comfortable and secure grip, reducing hand fatigue during prolonged use.
  • Length: Cell scrapers are available in different lengths to accommodate various container sizes and working conditions.
  • Disposable or Reusable: Cell scrapers are often disposable to ensure sterility and eliminate the risk of cross-contamination between experiments. However, there are also reusable options available that can be sterilized between uses.

Advantages

  • Made of medical grade polymer PP material;
  • The blade is soft and easy to operate, reducing cell damage;
  • The different lengths of the handle can meet the cell collection of different culture containers;
  • No endotoxin, No cytotoxicity, Non-pyrogenic;
  • Sterilized by irradiation, SAL=10-6.

A cell scraper is a laboratory tool designed for the collection and manipulation of cells in biological research. It is commonly used to detach and harvest cells from the surface of culture vessels such as cell culture dishes, flasks, or multi-well plates.

Cell scrapers are used when it is necessary to harvest cells from a culture vessel without disrupting their viability or integrity. They are particularly useful when cells have formed a monolayer and need to be removed for further analysis, subculturing, or experimental procedures.
